Am beth mae’r llyfr yn sôn?
Dyma gyfres newydd wreiddiol a chyffrous i blant gan yr awdur profiadol, Manon Steffan Ros. Arwyr y straeon yw tri o blant, sy’n galw eu hunain yn ‘Trio,’ ac maen nhw’n defnyddio eu sgiliau i ddatrys dirgelion wrth fynd ar anturiaethau difyr. Yn ôl Manon, daeth y syniad ar gyfer y gyfres ar ôl iddi gyfieithu rhai o lyfrau Enid Blyton i’r Gymraeg (cyfresi Pump Prysur a Saith Selog). Mae blas tebyg i’r hen glasuron yma ar Trio, ond mae hon yn gyfres wreiddiol ac unigryw i Gymru.
Beth sy’n wahanol - ac yn ddoniol - am y llyfrau yw bod ein harwyr anhygoel braidd yn ddi-glem, ac yn aml iawn yn gwneud smonach llwyr o bethau, gyda chanlyniadau hileriys!
Yn y llyfr yma, mae’r grŵp yn mynd ar antur i Ganolfan y Mileniwm yng Nghaerdydd, ond nid gwyliau arferol mo hwn, o na! Mae rhywbeth od iawn ar droed yn y brifddinas wrth i’r geiriau ar flaen yr adeilad eiconig gael eu newid i rywbeth digon anffodus... Ond pwy fyddai’n gwneud y fath beth?
Does gan yr heddlu ddim syniad pwy sydd ar fai, a dim llawer o ffydd yn sgiliau ditectif ein criw o ffrindiau ifanc. Efallai eu bod nhw dipyn bach yn wirion, ond drwy weithio fel tîm a gyda ’chydig bach o bwerau arbennig, dwi’n siŵr y bydd y criw yn llwyddo i ddatrys y dirgelwch mawr.
Beth sy’n dda am y llyfr?
Dwi’n hoffi’r enw syml ar gyfer y giang, sef ‘Trio’ a bod ganddo ystyr ddwbl. Mae o’n golygu ‘tri’ yn Eidaleg, ond hefyd yn golygu ‘ceisio’ yn Gymraeg sy’n gweddu i’r grŵp yma’n berffaith. Maen nhw’n ‘trio’ eu gorau glas ond yn aml iawn yn cael pethau’n anghywir. Clyfar iawn Manon Steffan Ros! Mae’n dda gweld fod hyd yn oed arwyr y llyfr yn gwneud camgymeriadau weithiau a dydyn nhw ddim yn berffaith bob tro. Dw i'n credu fod y ffaith eu bod nhw’n gwneud cawl o bethau weithiau’n gwneud y llyfr yn fwy doniol o lawer.
Mae’r ffaith fod yr anturiaethau’n digwydd yng Nghymru yn dda hefyd achos mae’n ein dysgu am lefydd a phethau yng Nghymru fel y Ganolfan Mileniwm (dwi eisiau mynd yna fy hun rŵan i weld y tu mewn).
Oedd ’na gymeriadau da?
Aelodau’r gang yw Derec Dynamo, Dilys Ddyfeisgar a Clem Clyfar. Mae pob un yn gymeriadau diddorol sydd â phwerau hud unigryw.
Dwi’n hoffi Derec Dynamo sy’n gryf ac yn gyflym. Mae’r ffaith ei fod o’n gwisgo trôns dros ei drowsus yn ddoniol ac roedd darllen amdano’n ceisio dringo fyny’r adeilad (heb lwyddo) yn gwneud i mi chwerthin!
Mae rhai o blant eraill y dosbarth yn genfigennus o gyfeillgarwch criw Trio ac maen nhw’n dweud pethau cas ac yn herian, ond dydi hyn ddim yn eu stopio nhw o gwbl. Erbyn diwedd y stori mae pawb wedi sylweddoli eu bod nhw’n cŵl ac eisiau bod yn ffrindiau gyda nhw.
Pwy fyddai’n hoffi’r llyfr yma?
Mae rhai yn dweud fod y llyfr yn addas ar gyfer plant 7-9 oed (ac mae hynny’n wir!) ond dwi’n meddwl y byddai plant hŷn yn mwynhau’r stori hefyd (9-11). Dyma rai rhesymau pam:
· Does ’na ddim gormod o ysgrifennu ar bob tudalen felly mae’n lot haws i’w ddarllen ac weithiau mae’n cynnwys pwyntiau bwled hefyd.
· Mae’r penodau yn fyr sy’n beth braf wrth ddarllen.
· Mae digon o luniau cartŵn osym Huw Aaron ar y tudalennau i wneud y stori hyd yn oed yn fwy diddorol
Mi fysa’r llyfr yn grêt i blant ’chydig yn hŷn hefyd sydd yn dysgu Cymraeg, neu jest eisiau mwynhau stori ysgafn heb ormod o waith meddwl.
A ddylid newid rhywbeth am y stori?
Fel arfer, dwi’n gallu meddwl am un neu ddau o bethau y byswn i'n hoffi eu newid am stori, ond tro yma, ’sgen i ddim byd i'w gynnig. Roedd y llyfr yn iawn fel oedd o – gobeithio y bydd ’na lot fwy o anturiaethau!

Mae’n wych gweld cyfres newydd wreiddiol yn y Gymraeg sy’n creu arwyr cwbl newydd ac arbennig ar gyfer plant Cymru. Fel llawer o lyfrau gan Manon Steffan Ros, mae’r ysgrifennu o safon uchel iawn gan ei bod hi’n dewis ei geiriau yn ofalus. Mae’r llyfr yn llawn geiriau ac ymadroddion Cymraeg fel ‘codi gwrychyn’ ac ‘a’i ben yn ei blu’. Am ryw reswm mi wnaeth ‘gwyneb fel torth’ wneud i mi giglo!
Os edrychwch ar y llyfr ei hun, mae o’n amlwg o ansawdd uchel iawn ac mae’r lliwiau glos a mat ar y clawr yn rhoi edrychiad ‘premiwm’ i’r llyfr. Mae’r tudalennau papur glossy yn teimlo’n braf wrth ddarllen a dwi’n hapus i ddweud nad ydi’r inc o un ochr yn dangos drwodd i’r dudalen arall! Stori berffaith i'w mwynhau ar ddiwedd y dydd.

Beth sy’n wahanol am y llyfrau yma yw bod y wasg wedi creu pethau i gyd-fynd â’r llyfrau sy’n rhywbeth cyffrous iawn i blant (ac yn rhywbeth prin iawn y dyddiau yma yn y Gymraeg). Mae plant Cymru yn gallu cofrestru AM DDIM i ymuno â ‘Chriw Trio’ a derbyn pecyn croeso yn y post ymysg pethau hwyl eraill. Mae’n werth manteisio ar hwn!
Trio Reading Club
There’s been a lot of ‘buzz’ about these books and the publisher has just launched a secret reading book club for young fans (something quite rare in Welsh nowadays). Children are able to register FOR FREE to join the 'Trio Crew’ and they’ll get a welcome pack in the post with a load of other fun things. This is worth taking advantage of!

What’s the book about?
This is an original and exciting new series for children by experienced author, Manon Steffan Ros. The heroes of the stories are three children, who call themselves 'Trio' and they use their skills to solve mysteries whilst on their adventures. According to Manon, the idea for the series came after she translated some of Enid Blyton's books into Welsh (Famous Five and Secret Seven). We get a flavour of these old classics with Trio, but this time we have an original and unique book for Wales.
What’s different about these books is that our amazing heroes are rather useless at what they do, and they often make a mess of things with hilarious results!
In this book, the group goes on an adventure to the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, but this is not a normal holiday, oh no! Something strange is afoot in the capital city as the words on the front of the iconic building have been changed to something quite unfortunate... but who would do such a thing?
The police have no idea who’s to blame, and they don’t have much faith in our group’s abilities! Maybe they are a bit silly, but by working as a team and with the help of some special powers, the gang is sure to solve the big mystery.
What's good about the book?
I like the name for the gang, ‘Trio,’ which has a double meaning. It means ‘three' in Italian, but also means 'trying' in Welsh - which suits this group perfectly. They 'try' their best but very often get things wrong. It's good to see that even the heroes of the book sometimes make mistakes and they're not always perfect. I think the fact that they make a mess of things sometimes makes the book funnier.
The fact that the adventures take place in Wales is also good because it teaches us about places and things in Wales such as the Millennium Centre (I want to go there myself now to see inside).
Were there good characters?
The gang members are Derec Dynamo, Dilys Ddyfeisgar and Clem Clyfar. Each one is interesting in their own way, with unique magic powers.
I like Derec Dynamo the most because he is supposed to be strong and fast. The fact that his costume consists of wearing his undies over his trousers is funny and I laughed quite a bit when he tried (unsuccessfully) to climb the building!
Some of the other children of the class are jealous of Trio’s friendship and they say mean things and often tease, but this doesn’t stop our crew. By the end of the story everyone has realised how amazing they are and want to be their friends.
Who would like this book?
Some say the book is suitable for children aged 7-9 (and yes, this is true!) but I think older children (about 9-11) would also enjoy the story. Here are some reasons why:
· Not too much writing on each page so it's a lot easier to read
· The chapters are short which is better for reading/confidence building.
· There are plenty of cartoon illustrations on the pages to make the story even more interesting.
The book is great for older children who are learning Welsh, or anyone really who just wants to enjoy a funny, light-hearted story without too much thinking.
Should something be changed about the story?
Normally, I’d give my opinion on things to change, but this time, I haven't got anything to offer. The book was fine as it was – I hope there will be a lot more adventures!

It is great to see an original, new Welsh-language series that creates completely new and distinctive heroes for the children of Wales. Like many books by Manon Steffan Ros, the writing is of a very high standard as she chooses her words carefully. The book is full of Welsh words and phrases and is a good language model.
If you look at the book itself, it is clearly of very high quality and the contrasting gloss and matt front cover gives the book a 'premium' look. The glossy paper pages feel satisfying to the touch and I’m pleased to report that the thick paper ensures the ink doesn’t show through to the other page! This is a perfect story to enjoy at the end of the day.
