Mae Teulu Tŷ Bach yn fy atgoffa o rhai o’r llyfrau Cymraeg roeddwn i’n arfer mwynhau eu darllen yn y 90au. Mae’r stori’n hollol random a dweud y gwir. Ar ddiwedd y stori, doeddwn i ddim cweit yn siŵr beth oeddwn i newydd ddarllen, na beth yn union oedd wedi digwydd, ond mam bach mi wnes i fwynhau!
Yn y llyfr, yn lle un stori fawr hir, rydym ni’n clywed pytiau o straeon sy’n adrodd hanes doniol a helbulus y rhai sy’n byw yn Nhŷ Bach, sef Blodwen, Cleif a Sam y ci. Mae ‘na bob math o bethau boncyrs yn digwydd yn y llyfr – wrth ddarllen doedd gen i ddim syniad i ble roedd y stori’n mynd nesaf, oedd yn braf o beth.
Y Gath drws nesaf yw gelyn mwyaf Sam y ci; mae hi’n dod i mewn i’r ardd ac yn mwynhau ei bryfocio. Mae hyn yn cynhyrfu Sam y ci’n racs - gyda chanlyniadau doniol! Mae’r gath a’r ci yn fy atgoffa o’r cartŵns Tom & Jerry! Mae’r hiwmor yn y llyfr yn slapstick pur, ac mae meddwl am Edward Edwards (y dyn moel drws nesaf) yn rhedeg o gwmpas yr ardd gyda’r gath am ei ben yn hileriys!
Yna, mae Blodwen yn gweld llygoden fawr tra mae hi yn y bath! Rhywsut mae hi’n landio yn yr ardd yn gwisgo dim byd ond ei thywel! Wrth i’r cymdogion busneslyd ddod i drio helpu, mae pethau’n mynd yn rhemp lwyr wrth i’r dynion ddechrau cwffio yn yr ardd!
Mae unrhyw un sy’n hoffi stori wirion bost yn siŵr o fod yn eu dybla’n chwerthin drwy’r llyfr yma! Ond mae yna hefyd ddiweddglo hapus, annwyl yng nghanol yr holl wallgofrwydd.
O, ia, a dwi ddim yn siŵr fedrai BYTH edrych ar jar o bicls eto heb feddwl am Cleif – neu Edward Edwards druan! YCH-A-FI!!!
Mae’r ysgrifen yn fawr ac yn glir yn y llyfr yma. Mae o’n un o ddewisiadau Bl.3a4 ar gyfer ‘Cwis Llyfrau 2019’ ond mi fasa fo’n addas i blant Bl.5&6 sy’n newydd i ddarllen llyfrau Cymraeg neu’n dysgu Cymraeg achos fod o’n syml ac yn hawdd i'w ddarllen. Er hyn, dwi’n meddwl fod Eurig Salisbury’n defnyddio iaith dda ynddo. Mae’r lluniau cartŵn od yn gweddu’r llyfr i’r dim. Teulu Tŷ Bach reminds me of some of the funny Welsh books I used to enjoy reading in the 90s. The story isn't intense, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is just nuts, basically! It’s nice to read a story like that sometimes. It’s the kind of book you can read without having to think too much. A simple, easy read.
The story is totally random. At the end of the story, I still wasn’t quite sure what I’d just read, or what exactly had happened, but boy did I enjoy it!
Even though it is one story, it feels more like a few shorter stories about the crazy antics of those who live at Tŷ Bach, namely Blodwen, Cleif and Sam the dog. There are all sorts of mad things going on in the book – as I was reading, I had no idea where the story was going next, which was interesting.
Next door’s cat is Sam’s biggest enemy; she comes into the garden and enjoys winding him up whilst he’s stuck in the house. The results are hilarious – they both remind me of the Tom & Jerry cartons! The humour in the book is a pure slapstick, and the thought of Edward Edwards (the bald man next door) running around the garden with the cat on his head is very funny indeed!
Then, all of a sudden, Blodwen sees a big rat while she’s in the bath! One way or another she ends up standing in the garden wearing nothing but her towel! As the nosey, meddling neighbours come to her rescue, it descends into complete chaos as the grown men start brawling in her prized flowerbed!
Anyone who likes a silly story is bound to in stitches throughout this book! But there is also a happy, affectionate ending in the midst of all the madness.
Oh, and, I'm not sure I can EVER look at a jar of pickles again without thinking of Cleif – or poor Edward Edwards! Yuck!
The font is large and clear in this book. It is one of the choices for Yrs.3&4 in the 2019 Book Quiz but I have also found it suitable for children in Yrs. 5&6 who are learners or are new to reading in Welsh. This is because it’s a simple and easy-going read. Despite its down to earth storyline, Eurig Salisbury uses rich, good quality language with many learning opportunities. The odd-looking cartoon pictures suit the book perfectly.
