Oedd gennych chi hoff athro/awes yn eich ysgol gynradd? Wel, Miss Arianwen Hughes oedd hoff athrawes Alfred! Roedd popeth yn grêt tan y newyddion gwaethaf erioed – roedd hi’n gadael yr ysgol! Yn ei lle, daeth Miss Prydderch, gyda’i ffrog lwyd, ei gwallt llwyd, sbectol llwyd a’i llygaid llwyd!
Dydi Alfred ddim yn hapus o gwbl. Ond nid athrawes arferol ydi Miss Prydderch – O na! Mae hi’n gallu mynd a’r plant ar anturiaethau anhygoel, achos, fel mae’r teitl yn awgrymu, mae ganddi Garped Hud! Mae’r dosbarth i gyd yn gwibio o’r ysgol i Goedwig y Tylluanod, lle mae nhw’n cwrdd â nifer o ryfeddodau – gan gynnwys y badi, Dr Wg ab Lin! Peidiwch ac edrych i mewn i’w lygaid da chi!
Mae’r stori yn symud yn ôl ac ymlaen rhwng yr anturiaethau amser stori yn y goedwig, a’r frwydr sy’n digwydd yn y pentref i gadw Ysgol Y Garn ar agor. Rydyn ni’n dod i ‘nabod rhai o aelodau’r dosbarth, a rhai o’r pobl eraill yn y gymuned. Erbyn diwedd y llyfr, mae Miss Prydderch yn dal i fod yn ddirgelwch ac mae gennym dal llwyth o gwestiynau amdani!
Mae’r llyfr yn gorffen ar cliff-hanger gyffrous sy’n gosod y stori nesaf yn y drioleg i fyny ‘n berffaith. Mae iaith y llyfr yn eithaf syml ac yn llifo’n reit hawdd wrth ddarllen. Does dim gormod o ‘sgwennu ar y tudalennau ac mae na newidiadau ym maint y llythrennau a dwdls ar rai tudalennau i gadw pethau’n ddiddorol. Un peth arbennig am y llyfr yma ydi’r bocsys bach a’r llinellau sy’n dod allan o rai geiriau. Mae nhw’n helpu i esbonio geiriau sydd braidd yn anghyfarwydd- sy’n beth Andros o handi. Mae na hefyd saethau yn y llyfr sy’n mynd a chi i wefan www.missprydderch.cymru, lle mae na dipyn o weithgareddau sy’n cyd-fynd gyda’r llyfr.
Mae’r llyfr yn 168 o dudalennau felly mae’n stori reit fyr sy’n grêt i rhywun sy’n newydd i ddarllen llyfr Cymraeg neu sy’n hoffi y teimlad da o orffen llyfr.
Mae na dipyn o’r llyfr yma yn mynd ar osod y sefyllfa a cyflwyno ni i gymeriadau am y tro cyntaf, felly dwi’n siwr bydd y cyffro a’r antur yn hyd yn oed mwy yn y llyfrau nesa!
Did you ever have a favourite teacher in school? Wel, Miss Arianwen Hughes was Alfred's favourite! Everything was going great until the worst news ever- she was leaving! In her place came Miss Prydderch, with her grey clothes, grey glasses, grey hair and grey eyes!
Alfred is not impressed. But Miss Prydderch is no ordinary teacher - Oh no! She can take the children on incredible adventures, because, as the title suggests, she has a magic carpet! The entire class can zoom to Coedwig y Tylluanod (Forest of Owls) where they meet new friends - including the baddy - Dr Wg ab Lin! Don't look into his eyes whatever you do!
The story moves back and forth between the forest adventures and another battle in the village to keep Ysgol y Garn open. We meet Alfred's classmates, along with others from the community. By the end of the book, we still have a million questions to ask about Miss Prydderch.
The book ends on an exciting cliff-hanger which sets up the next story in the trilogy perfectly. The language is fairly simple and flows well/naturally. There isn't too much writing on the pages and some of the text is different sizes along with doodles which makes things more interesting. One great thing about this book is there are circles around some words that explain what they mean- which is really handy! You might also notice some arrows that point to some things- there are some resources (in Welsh) on www.missprydderch.cymru to go with the story.
The story is 168 pages which is fairly short, so it's great for someone new to reading Welsh books and who like the feeling of success when finishing a book. A lot of this book has gone into introducing us and setting up the story and characters, so I'm sure the next books will contain even more excitement and adventure with our new friends!
